Information
Description - In the summer of 1820, Elijah Hamlin and Ezekiel Holmes find tourmaline on Mount Mica in Oxford County and begin the first mining of a gemstone in the United States. Maine becomes world-renowned for having the finest tourmaline, and the pink, blue, green, and watermelon-colored gem becomes Maine's state mineral.
