Diary and letter book of William Parrott, 1839
William P. Parrott served as the Assistant Land Agent for the State of Maine under Rufus McIntire, the Land Agent. During the Aroostook War Parrott was stationed in Fort Fairfield and was a leader in the militia. The journal includes entries written by Parrott between April and November of 1839, but also includes copies of Parrott's correspondence. Throughout the journal, Parrott refers to "De Chute." The River De Chute is a river in Maine and New Brunswick. From the outflow of Lindsay Lake in Easton, Maine, the river runs about 5 miles south, about half a mile west of the Canada–United States border.
